I agree that both the old and new forms of media and journalists can share the same space, fvgiratuiely speaking of course. Although, the new Higgs-Boson theory would state otherwise. But, going back to Shirky's points in Chapter 6 of group collaboration, it is definitely growing exponentially in all areas of society all over the world. Clearly, the ability to organize globally because of technology helps to connect people together and institute change for a common cause/goal and that's a wonderful thing. But, kind of getting back to the beginning of the book, I think it also contributes in disconnecting with our own local communities. As we all know, the more we become digitally connected, the more we can become isolated from those around us. Sometimes feel that I interact with my computer more than I interact with my friends and family. Although I might be connecting through social media on a daily basis with people, it's, more or less, a passive mode of socializing and it doesn't *really* count. I think there is a difference between being connected or informed and being engaged. At least that's how I see it from my little corner of the world.
